The last time I visited my mom I was worried because she was not doing well.
Unfortunately, mom is not the kind of mother that burdens her children with her problems.
I was not comfortable with leaving her feeling sick and sad. I talked to my wife and we planned to visit mom again over the weekend. This time round we would not inform her to avoid stressing her. Thank God we visited unannounced as this was the only way we could find out the truth. My mother had been struggling with her health for a few months now. She was weak and frail and only put up a strong face whenever we visited her. This particular afternoon she was too weak to even switch on the heater. Winter was slowly approaching and mom’s house was getting cold. She lived in a hilly area in the country because she loved to farm. We had tried on several occasions to convince her to come with us to the city but she refused. Mom was lying on her bed frail and almost pale. We quickly rushed her to the hospital where she was admitted for treatment. I later went back to her house to find out why it was too cold. I contacted Mr. Wilson, mom’s HVAC serviceman to find out when was the last time the HVAC equipment was maintained. To my surprise, the HVAC unit had been unattended for over a year. This was so unlike my mom which was more reason for me to worry. We later found out that mom was struggling with her memory. She needed our support and we were willing to move back to stay with her since she would not agree to move to the city. We called the HVAC company to carry out general HVAC maintenance and upgrades to make the house comfortable.
