Roofing is much harder than you think

On TV everything seems so easy. From computer hacking to catching criminals, from painting to skydiving, when you watch things on television it feels like you could do them just as well. Is that just me, or do you do that too? I have been watching a lot of home renovation shows, or programs about house flipping, and I started to think it was something I could handle. It only took one day of actual renovation work before I realized I was in over my head. I was pretty handy around the house, but I wasn’t a plumber, an AC repair tech, an electrician, or a roofing contractor. What seemed to be so easy on TV was virtually impossible in reality. I got up on top of the house and started looking around for weak spots or indentations in the roofing, to indicate damage underneath. I found more problems with the roofing than I could have ever imagined. I had to be careful with every step I took, because the roof was so badly in need of extensive repairs. I did a little online research, and found three different roofing contractors in my area that handled residential roofs. Only two of them offered a free price estimate for roof replacement, so those were the two I made appointments with. One of these roofing companies was a family owned and operated business, with a man, his wife, and their three sons. I chose this family-run roofing company because they seemed eager to work, and they gave me a great price estimate.
