Heating our Old House

Our household is over one hundred years old, & it can be a pain sometimes.

My partner, Todd, & I purchased the household when my fantastic friend and I were first married, & it was my dream come true.

I’ve constantly wanted to live in an older house. I think they have so much more character that the new ones that most of my family live in. After living in our household for only a couple short years, I realized that living in & outdated household wasn’t all that I thought that it would be; Don’t get me wrong, it is a attractive house, & it does have a lot of character, however it also has a lot of problems. We’ve had many leaks in the bathroom & dining room. We’ve had some electrical issues & easily decided to get the entire household rewired, however by far, the greatest trouble we’ve had is trying to heat the stadium in the winter time time. There was an outdated wood burning stove there when my fantastic friend and I purchased the house, however it has since bit the dust. Thankfully, the household isn’t that big, so my fantastic friend and I at least have that going for us. My pal and I ended up purchasing three electric fireplaces. One for the home office, one for the home office/dining room, & one for our home office. They seem to do a pretty fantastic task of keeping the household overheated in the winter time months. The temperatures rarely drop below forty where my fantastic friend and I are at, so the fireplaces are able to keep up. As long as my fantastic friend and I can keep the drafty windows & doors covered, our household stays nice & cozy during even the coldest winter time afternoons. I savor our outdated house, however man, it has been a lot of work to keep it heated.
