It would cost a fortune to add ductwork to the old school

Stacy doesn’t think her school has a central air conditioning system as it would cost millions of dollars in renovations to try to install ductwork throughout the old building.

Times really are changing right before our eyes. If you grew up in the 90s like Stacy did, chances are, you’ll have some of the same experiences that she had. iPhones weren’t a thing for her back then, her game systems were nowhere as advanced as the ones today, and having an a/c at household or at school was a luxury. Stacy lived in a major metropolitan neighborhood and her school was built back in the 1920s, which was before the central air conditioning system was widely used in the 1960s. So, she went to a school that only had air conditioning in particular sites and multiple of the classrooms weren’t part of those spaces. Their labs had air conditioning systems and so did some of the offices in the building. Window air conditioning systems were installed in those areas. Stacy doesn’t recall them ever being too uncomfortable while in the Spring semester. Then again, the weather wasn’t nearly as hot as it is now. They got out of school in early June, which was before the beginning of the Summer season. Stacy doesn’t think her school has a central air conditioning system as it would cost millions of dollars in renovations to try to install ductwork throughout the old building. She does think after the pandemic, there were talks of schools receiving the money needed to complete the central air conditioning system updates, but she is not sure of the status of that issue. Most adolescents today who are going to school in other parts of the country have never known life without a central air conditioning system. And they have no idea how much of a luxury it is because there are still multiple schools with no air conditioning system.
