When you ask a guy from way down south to take over a failing office way, way up north, don’t be surprised if you get some HVAC requests.
When the bosses broached the topic of me going up north to turn around a regional office, I had mixed emotions.
On the one hand, I was really excited to be presented with such a fast track option for my career. On the other hand the idea of a Winter that came with a gas furnace running day and night was not appealing at all. But, it was just way too hard for me to tell my bosses no. Had I done that, I’m guessing that would be the last time I was asked. So I took a day to think about it and then went with my gut. It appeared that I was going to learn all about heating a house during the Winter. Where I lived at the time was barely an hour from where I grew up and that was intentional. I like my Winters with a big case of silent heat pump. This was going to be a real challenge and I’m glad that I wasn’t trying to kid myself at all about how difficult is was going to be. However, the house I purchased came with new residential HVAC which included a new and very efficient gas furnace. The HVAC technician showed me what I needed to do when it came to preparing for Winter so the house was a toasty warm zone. But the office is a whole other animal. It’s a fairly big space with more than 50 people working mostly in cubicles. There is one thermostat setting for old commercial HVAC. One of the first things I did was to submit a proposal for zone controlled HVAC.
