I’ve reached a point in my life when I really don’t enjoy going out as much as I used to.
When I was in my early twenties and younger, I was always excited at the opportunity to go out on the town.
I got super stoked about getting dressed up, putting together an outfit, and finding a fancy new place to dine at. I think it was an extremely novel experience back then, and I enjoyed being seen out on the town. As an adult, I don’t care very much about any of this. I am far more concerned with saving money and spending quality time with people that I care about. On the rare occasion that I do go out to a restaurant, I am often disappointed. The service will be awful or, many times, the indoor air quality is absolutely horrendous. I can’t tell you how many times I have had to get up and leave a restaurant because it was too cold for me to continue eating there. If possible, I’ll go to the car and grab a jacket for extra warmth. If I don’t have an extra layer sitting around, however, I truly can’t stand to sit in ridiculous air conditioning and try to enjoy a meal. I will end up shivering throughout the entire dinner and trying to hide from the air vents around the restaurant. At that point, it’s not even worth sticking around and trying to finish out my expensive meal. I would rather face the public humiliation of complaining about indoor air quality and leaving the restaurant. Truly, if an eating establishment isn’t going to invest in high quality indoor air temperature equipment, I’m not going to invest in their food.
