Roommate won't take care of the HVAC system – waiting for appointment

When I was much younger I definitely didn’t understand human beings.

  • I was afraid of them all, and I perceived them to be superior to me in every way.

Frankly, I just wasn’t well socialized when it came to other people. As I get older, I realize that I have a lot to offer my species. In fact, I am a pretty responsible and unique human being. This becomes clearer and clearer as time goes on and I meet more people my age. The discrepancy between how I act and how my peers act is shocking. I think it’s most clearly demonstrated When comparing me to my roommate. She comes from an extremely wealthy family and has no sense of responsibility or concern for money. Meanwhile, I am from below the poverty line and I care deeply about being financially responsible. That’s why, I’m currently sitting in the house on my day off of work waiting for the HVAC technician to arrive. When I moved in, my roommate couldn’t tell me a single thing about the central heating and cooling system. I asked her about the air filter that it uses, the brand of thermostat that she trusted, and her intended routine service schedule for the entire HVAC system. She looks at me completely dumbfounded and told me to ask the landlord. Unfortunately, I have become responsible for all of these HVAC tasks. Because she doesn’t care about wasting money on our monthly energy bill or neglecting to arrange routine service appointments, and therefore wearing down in the central heating and cooling equipment, that means it’s my job. Maybe I don’t come from the best family, but at least I’m responsible when it comes to finances and HVAC systems.
